How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I began my career in the financial services industry at 18 years of age, eventually attaining the coveted designation of Certified Financial Planner (CFP). In 2003, I started my own financial planning practice in Lake Geneva and, as part of my business, began offering mortgages. I developed a love for the mortgage business and helping people achieve their dream of home-ownership, which led me to the decision to focus full time on the mortgage business. Since that time, I have dedicated myself to utilizing my financial expertise to help as many people as possible with their mortgage needs. I chose to join Guaranteed Rate because it provides the platform for me to offer my clients both great rates and the best possible mortgage experience.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
I would suggest to first time home buyers that they build a relationship with a qualified realtor who knows what they are looking for. When the realtor and lender work together, I feel the borrowers have a great team in place to help them meet their family’s needs. It is vitally important for first time home buyers to understand what type of loan they are in and the pro’s and con’s. I pride myself on educating my borrowers. With over 20 years of combined experience the mortgage and financial planning businesses, I have the experience and qualifications necessary to educate my borrowers about all of the different programs that are available to them and will then look at their unique situations and then help guide them the process of deciding which loan program is right for them. The industry has changed so much that borrowers can’t take anything for granted. Borrowers that develop a good relationship with a qualified lender will be in the best position to ensure they have a good mortgage experience.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
In order to have a smooth process from start to finish, the best thing the borrowers can do is be pro-active and get as much documentation together as early in the process as possible. My main goal is to place the borrowers in the best home loan for their unique situation and, in order to do that, I like to work as a team with my borrowers. My team and I will guide them through the process and advise them as to what we need to move their loan forward. If they are able to provide us with those items in a timely manner, then everything goes more smoothly.
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I live and work in Walworth County Wisconsin. My husband of 21 years is a US Army Veteran and works with me in this business. While we aren’t working, we love watching our kids in their sporting and school events. We have 3 kids. Amanda age 17, Kelsie age 13 and Shane age 7. They are all very active, smart, and fun loving kids. We enjoy camping and skiing together. The greatest satisfaction I get is when I am around town somewhere and I run into one of my previous borrowers. I love hearing all about their family and how well they are doing. It’s truly about building relationships in this business. I have borrowers that belong to my church, the local schools, police and fire departments, and other local businesses and organizations. I feel fortunate that, in a small community like this, I am able to see then all over town living their lives!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
Something unique things about me are that I have a weird obsession with real housewives shows and true crime documentaries.
